SignalWire Overview

This page will help you get started with SignalWire. You'll be up and running in a jiffy!

Getting Started with SignalWire APIs

Welcome to SignalWire! We know that getting started isn't always easy, so we've created some helpful guides to get you up to speed no matter which API you've decided to use. Learn more about our different APIs below to figure out which is the right pick for you!

The SignalWire Communications API

SignalWire's next-generation APIs are easy-to-integrate and designed for asynchronous control - enabling the most responsive interactions and application logic. The real-time web service protocol provides advanced call control, smarter error handling, granular customization, and reduces latency!

The SignalWire Compatibility API

If you are coming from another provider rhyming with billio... this may be the perfect API for you! Our backward compatible API is made to make it exceedingly simple and fast to switch your already built working applications over to SignalWire with ease. This REST API enables easy management of calls, conferences, queues, messaging, faxing, and SIP all with simple HTTP requests to SignalWire!

LaML terminology

You will see some sections within your SignalWire space referred to as LaML. This is our antiquated terminology for our Compatible API. Please note that they refer to the same API!

SignalWire Compatibility XML

SignalWire Compatible XML uses familiar XML syntax for incoming voice functions including <Play>, <Say>, <Gather>, <Dial>, <Conference>, <Enqueue>, et al. Simple use cases such as call forwarding, taking a voicemail, responding to an inbound message, and more can be done using XML alone in our bins, completely avoiding the need for hosting code on a server.

Guides, Snippets, and Applications

Maybe you're not feeling a particular calling to any of the above APIs, and you care more about the feature or use case than the specific technology behind it. That's okay too! We want to help make your life as easy as possible, so we have provided a number of sample snippets, guides, and applications that you can use to get up and running quickly or just play with different features!

Using the navigational sidebar to your left, check out our collection of applications & demos that utilize SignalWire's different products and features. These applications are 100% standalone, meaning all you have to do is make sure you have the right SDKs downloaded and replace the authentication variables with the ones from your space.

If you've already done some building and you want to enhance what you've created, or you want to play with a specific feature and not a whole application, our guides might be perfect for you. Check out guides within each product category on the sidebar in order to find implementations of many of our popular features!

Lastly, if you just want a quick copyable piece of code that you can use to accomplish one-off tasks such as listing your calls to CSV, updating webhooks en masse, or analyzing messages over a time period to draw some statistics, the snippets are right up your alley. Each of the code snippets comes with a handy recipe where you can see a quick step-by-step of the code, or read the full walkthrough for more understanding and detail about what your code is doing!

Whatever you choose to try, we can't wait to see what you build!
