Your SignalWire Phone Numbers Space
Whether you want to use SignalWire phone numbers for voice, messaging, fax, IVR apps, high traffic marketing, or occasional business calls, the Phone Numbers section of your SignalWire Space is the dashboard to manage all of your SignalWire phone numbers.
SignalWire offers three main types of numbers: 10-digit long code (10DLC), Toll-Free, and Short Code. A 10DLC is a standard phone number suited to local voice services, conversational messaging, and fax. You may prefer to use Toll-Free numbers for business voice services, application messaging, and fax. Short Codes offer unparalleled messaging throughput and deliverability. They are the best choice for messaging-heavy applications.
Our 10DLC phone numbers are also referred to as DIDs or Direct-Inward-Dial numbers. This is just another way to say these numbers are virtual numbers that connect to a specific person or app instead of having a single number for your business that goes to a menu or queue and requires extensions. After all of your systems and methods are in place, DIDs allow for a simple user experience.
First, you're going to need SignalWire phone numbers. This tab shows all of the 10DLC and Toll-Free phone numbers you have purchased and their capabilities. You can purchase additional phone numbers with the blue "+ New" button on the top right. See more details on the Buying a Phone Number page.
Clicking on a phone number will take you to a details page where you can
- Edit the settings to change the actions taken when the number receives an incoming phone call, fax, or message.
- Transfer the number to another project in your Space
- Set an emergency E911 address for the number
- View billing history for the number
- Release the number
The "⋯" menu has an Edit link to the same page to change the actions taken when the number receives an incoming phone call, fax, or message. This is the most important set-up for your phone number as no action occurs on incoming calls until these settings are in place. In this tab, you will find a list of phone numbers that you have verified that you already own outside of SignalWire. These numbers are not ported to SignalWire and you will continue to be serviced by the original provider. Phone numbers that are verified on the SignalWire network can only be used with SignalWire as a caller ID for placing outbound calls. The Verified Caller ID guide can walk you through the process if you need more help.
All of your purchased Short Code numbers are displayed here. You can purchase a new Short Code number with the blue "Get Started" button for your first number or the blue "+ New" button on the top right if you already own Short Code numbers. This will connect you to our sales department which will walk you through the purchasing process. After the process is complete, a list of your Short Codes will be displayed in a list. As with the other purchased numbers, clicking on a number will open its details page where you can:
- Edit the settings to change the actions taken when the Short Code number receives an incoming message.
- Transfer the Code to another Project in your Space
- View billing history
- Release the Short Code
If you decide to port over your existing phone numbers to the SignalWire service, you will submit your port requests here. You can port any number, wireless or business landline. Once successfully ported, the phone number will appear in your Purchased tab with all of your other SignalWire numbers. You can create and manage Number Groups in this tab. This is a helpful way to organize your Purchased phone numbers for efficient call handling. Create a new Number Group by clicking the blue "Create a Number Group" or "+ New" button, depending on whether you already have any groups. After you name your group, you can add numbers from your full list of Purchased numbers with a simple toggle. A phone number can be in multiple groups.
You also have the option here to enable Sticky Sender. With sticky sender enabled, instead of choosing a random number from the group, the same "From" number will be chosen for the same "To" number every time. This means that without doing any extra work on your side, your customer will always receive messages from the same company number.

This is the home for your addresses to be used for emergency services. If you are unfamiliar with Enhanced 911, please read our guide What is E911?. In that document, you will also find step-by-step instructions on testing your E911 settings.
After adding an address in this tab, you can assign the address to a specific phone number from the settings available in the Purchased numbers tab.
By default, SignalWire phone numbers purchased through your Space don’t support E911. If you'd like to purchase a phone number that provides E911, please contact the SignalWire Support Team by creating a support ticket using the "Help and Support" link in your SignalWire Space's top navigation.
